Writing
  • TexStudio is the main LaTex editor I use. You will also need to install MiKTeX or TeXLive. This file is the basic template I use. When you first compile it you will be prompted to download a few additional packages. I use Zotero to create my .bib file. 
  • Dr. Agan's website aggregates links to writing advice, and includes multiple classics about writing in economics.

Aspiring Academic Economics 
  • My twitter thread contains my advice on applications for PhD.-focused Economics MA programs, specifically the UChicago MAPSS/MACSS program. May have relevance for Ph.D. applications as well.

Undergraduate Economics Journals

These journals encourage and accept original papers from any undergraduate student
currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university.
  • The Berkeley Economic Review is the University of California at Berkeley's undergraduate, peer-reviewed, academic economics journal, and publishes undergraduate research papers and honors theses in the field of economics, political science, public policy, business, statistics, and related fields. 
  • The Columbia Economic Review  aims to promote economics discourse and research at the intersection of business, politics, society and more by publishing a rigorous selection of student essays, opinions and research papers in a print journal released each semester. 
  • Comparative Advantage is the annual undergraduate economics journal of Stanford University, publishing articles in all fields related to economics – including public policy, finance, economic sociology, business, and any other relevant subjects.
  • Cornell Undergraduate Economics Review, (formerly "The Visible Hand") covers a wide range of economic issues with a focus on contemporary issues that occur in economics throughout the semester of publication. 
  • The Developing Economist is edited at the University of Texas at Austin and publishes undergraduate research in the fields of Economics, Mathematics, Political Economy, Finance, and Public Policy.
  • The Penn Undergraduate Law Journal considers submissions from students in any field as long as their pieces relate to law or legal systems. It  need not be written on United States law--they can be written on the laws or legal system of any nation.  
  • Issues in Political Economy is is published by Elon University and the University of Mary Washington, and associated with the EEA conference. It publishes articles relevant to some aspect of economics, which must be submitted through a faculty sponsor. 
  • Undergraduate Economic Review is based at Illinois Wesleyan University, and publishes essays authored by undergraduates relevant to economics.

Undergraduate-friendly Economics Conferences

  • ​​Eastern Economic Association Undergraduate Sessions: The Eastern Economic Association invites undergraduates to submit essays for presentation at its annual meeting in late February or early March. The deadline for submission is early November.
  • International Atlantic Economic Society: Best Undergraduate Paper Competition: To encourage undergraduate interest in economic issues, the International Atlantic Economic Society invites undergraduate students to compete in the IAES annual undergraduate paper competition. The winner of the student competition will receive: a $500 check, a handsome commemorative plaque, and complimentary publication of the paper in the Atlantic Economic Journal. The winner will be selected at the International Atlantic Economic Conference annual conference in October. The submission deadline is June 15.
  • Midwest Economics Association Undergraduate Sessions: The Midwest Economics Association invites undergraduates to present their essays at special undergraduate sessions of the annual meeting each March. An award of $200 goes to the best undergraduate essay. The deadline for submission of the essay is November 15.
  • Missouri Valley Economic Association invites undergraduates to submit proposals to present essays at the MVEA annual meeting and provide cash awards for top essays.
  • Council on Undergraduate Research provides a variety of venues for undergraduates to present their research.
  • Carroll Round at Georgetown University is an annual conference on international economics "provides a unique forum for research and discussion among the nation’s top undergraduates."
